Applications are invited for a 12-month fixed-term Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to join the NHS Grampian Gastroenterology Service across Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin. This is a full-time post comprising 10 Programmed Activities.
The successful applicant will join a well-established team of 14 Consultant Gastroenterologists and one Associate Specialist, delivering comprehensive secondary and tertiary gastroenterology services across NHS Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. The Department of Digestive Disorders provides a full range of advanced luminal gastroenterology services, including specialist inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, hepatology and clinical nutrition.
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, the major teaching hospital for the North of Scotland, provides tertiary gastroenterology services for NHS Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. Inpatient Gastroenterology care is delivered within the Emergency Care Centre, supported by a dedicated 29-bed Gastroenterology ward. The department benefits from recently refurbished endoscopy and outpatient facilities, providing an excellent environment for patient care, training and service development.
Dr Gray's Hospital, located in Elgin, serves a population of approximately 132,000 across Moray and surrounding communities. The hospital provides a broad range of acute and elective services and works closely with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as the regional tertiary referral and major trauma centre.
The NHS Grampian Gastroenterology Service has strong links with the University of Aberdeen and supports a vibrant research, teaching and training environment. The service contributes to undergraduate medical education, including the teaching of 4th and 5th year medical students, and offers excellent postgraduate educational opportunities through established training programmes, an active research programme, and the Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning in Healthcare.
