Quest apprenticeships give learners the opportunity to gain new skills, knowledge and behaviours which can be put into practice in the workplace and are a great development opportunity. Study is mainly online through our education partner Exeter College. There is no change to your terms and conditions, and you study alongside your current role.

The start date for this apprenticeship is 25 March 2026 for 18 Months.

Who is this apprenticeship suitable for?

Do you assess colleagues as part of your current role? Perhaps you assess apprentices, trainees or new recruits? Suitable roles within GWR could be Peer Trainers, Service Delivery Coaches, Trainers and Coaches or Guards and Customer Hosts that assess colleagues. You will need to have the opportunity to undertake the following before End Point Assessment:

  • Shadowing experienced GWR qualified assessors to observe how they assess colleagues against set criteria, give feedback, set objectives, review progress, plan assessments, undertake assessments and make assessment decisions
  • Complete assessment activities on your own – have access to at least two colleagues to undertake the following:
  • Plan for assessments against set criteria
  • Undertake multiple assessments
  • Make assessment decisions
  • Give feedback
  • Set objectives
  • Review progress
  • Take part in standardisation activities
What does the apprenticeship involve?

Throughout this programme you will learn to:

  • Use a range of communication methods to provide timely constructive feedback on assessment decisions
  • Plan and conduct inclusive assessment using a range of methods and approaches working within organisational, legal, and ethical frameworks, including confidentiality and safeguarding
  • Participate in standardisation, moderation and quality assurance of assessment decisions
  • Develop and maintain current and accurate records of assessment plans and tracking of assessment decisions
  • Use assessment outcomes and data to support the ongoing setting of individual learning goals and progression toward timely achievement of intended outcomes
  • Provide information, advice and guidance
  • Recognise the role ofholisticassessment in supporting the development of wider skills for the learner
  • Make sustainably informed decisions in approaches used to plan, conduct, record and evaluate assessment activities
  • Undertake and maintain records of continual professional development activities to maintain occupational competency, including sustainable practice and digital literacy

Our delivery partner

The programme will be delivered by Ofsted Outstanding Exeter College through taught sessions in a mix of face to face and on-line delivery two days per month. You will be required to be released for study or online learning and in addition you should also expect eight weekly reviews with your Skills Officer. Additionally, you need to study and complete assignments in your own time.

Applicants will be required to complete an application form and if short listed, a short on-line information session with a tutor from Exeter college.
