Pupil Support Assistant Level 2

Job Details

We are looking for a committed Pupil Support Assistant who is passionate about improving life chances for all, so that children and young people can achieve their full potential. As a Pupil Support Assistant, you will work under the direction and supervision of a Class Teacher or senior member of staff to assist by supporting children and young people who have been identified as requiring additional support.

• Support pupils/children individually or in class or in small groups in identified areas of learning and personal development.
• Contribute information to update planning and review process for individual pupils/children.
• Supervise pupil/child self‑administration of medication. You will offer a high level of personal care which will enable the pupil/child to function to their full potential e.g. toileting, administrating medication in line with agreed training procedures and encouraging self‑help and independence.
• Carry out support programmes designed by visiting specialists e.g. speech and language programmes, physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy programmes.
• Support pupil/child mobility (as defined by moving and handling training) on an emergency/short‑term basis and for low level needs e.g. to support toileting or short term injury such as a broken leg.

You are required to have good levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of a team to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people.

• Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs.
• You must apply to register with SSSC within 3 months of taking up employment in this role (Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special Schools only) and maintain your registration.
• 2 National 5s, 2 Standard Grades, 2 O Grades or equivalent.
• For Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special Schools only - NC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6 or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6 or Professional Development Award in Education Support Assistance at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent or, a commitment to achieve in the first period of registration as required by the employer.
