The Offshore Wind Painter is responsible for the preparation, application, inspection, and maintenance of protective coating systems on offshore wind turbines and associated structures. The role is critical in protecting assets from corrosion, ensuring structural integrity, and supporting the long‑term reliability and availability of offshore wind installations.
Key Responsibilities Coating & Painting Works- Carry out surface preparation activities including cleaning, abrasive blasting, power tooling, and washing in line with project specifications.
- Apply protective coating systems (primer, intermediate, and topcoats) using brush, roller, or spray techniques as required.
- Perform touch‑up, repair, and maintenance painting on towers, nacelles, platforms, ladders, secondary steelwork, and other turbine components.
- Ensure all coating work meets required thickness, finish, and quality standards.
- Conduct visual inspections and basic coating measurements (e.g. dry film thickness) as required.
- Identify coating damage, corrosion, or defects and report findings to the supervisor.
- Complete quality records, work packs, and inspection documentation accurately.
- Work safely at height and in confined spaces, following all offshore and site‑specific safety procedures.
- Comply fully with permit‑to‑work systems, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Use PPE correctly and maintain safe housekeeping at all times.
- Promote a strong safety culture and stop work if unsafe conditions are identified.
- Work effectively as part of an offshore team, supporting other trades where appropriate.
- Follow asset owner, client, and company procedures at all times.
- Support mobilisation, demobilisation, and logistics activities when required.
- Experience in industrial painting or coatings (offshore, marine, oil & gas, or wind advantageous).
- Practical knowledge of surface preparation and coating application methods.
- Comfortable working at height and offshore in challenging environments.
- Strong safety awareness and ability to follow procedures.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Offshore wind or marine industry experience.
- Familiarity with common offshore coating systems and corrosion protection principles.
- Experience completing work packs and quality documentation.
- Valid GWO Basic Safety Training (or ability to obtain).
- Valid offshore medical (e.g. OGUK or equivalent).
- Relevant painting/coatings qualifications (e.g. ICATS, NACE, or equivalent) desirable.
- Confined space and working at height certifications advantageous.
- Relevant SGRE e‑Learnings desirable.
- Reliable, flexible, and adaptable to offshore rotations.
- High attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
- Positive, professional attitude when working in demanding offshore environments.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home for extended periods.
