The Netherton Hub is a major new energy infrastructure development located near Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, forming a key part of SSEN Transmission’s multi‑billion‑pound Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) programme and its wider Pathway to 2030 upgrade of the Scottish transmission network.
Designed to strengthen the UK’s ability to transport renewable electricity from the north of Scotland to high‑demand centres nationwide, the hub will incorporate a new High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converter station, a 400 kV substation, a 132 kV substation, and associated operational facilities. Once complete, it will enable efficient long‑distance transmission of offshore and onshore renewable energy, supporting both UK and Scottish Government net‑zero targets while delivering significant economic benefits, job creation, and local supply‑chain opportunities.

What you’ll be doingTo undertake the design co‑ordination, management and delivery of all temporary works required on projects. This will span from the initial feasibility assessment, through detail design and installation to final removal, including where appropriate preparation of in‑house temporary works design.
Management of whole life process of temporary works process on site:
- Identify temporary works designs required to complete the permanent works.
- Produce temporary works design briefs, including associated sketches, layouts, design standards, client requirements as appendices.
- Act as point of contact between site and temporary works designers in raising, development, issuing and changing temporary works designs.
- Control document control process for the temporary works register and filing of associated briefs, drawings, calculations, sketches etc methodically.
Oversee the permit to load process, ensuring installations on site comply with the temporary works design.
To support the conception, design, development, planning, delivery and evaluation of the effectiveness of the Temporary Works solutions.
To assess & identify temporary works requirements on each project, this could include:
- Access, protection and lifting scaffolding
- Excavation support for tower foundations or cable trenches
- Formwork & setting templates for reinforced concrete foundations
- Piling & Cranage platforms
- Access roads & traffic management
- Catenary Support System (in‑house system used in place of scaffold)
- Backstays & temporary steelwork for tower support
- Temporary overhead line diversions
- Development of accurate design briefs in consultation with site and design teams
- Creation and maintenance of schedules to track and control schemes’ temporary works
- To identify competent designers, suppliers & operatives for installation of each type of temporary works, and to co‑ordinate & supervise their work
- Undertake simple (Cat 0/1) temporary works designs
- Acting as a focal point for temporary works over multiple sites; support the Temporary Works Supervisors responsible for inspecting the erection, maintenance and dismantling of temporary works in accordance with BBUS procedures.
- Ensure business processes and systems for Temporary Works are implemented
- Audit and competency assess BBUS projects & suppliers.
- Civil or Structural Engineering Qualification, minimum of a HNC/HND.
- CITB approved Temporary Works Coordinator qualification.
