Filming Requirements Engineer (Aero Engine)
This position is based in Aberdeen and requires strong aerospace engine knowledge, hands‑on workshop familiarity, and the ability to collaborate with technicians, engineers, and quality stakeholders.
Role OverviewThe Filming Requirements Engineer will lead the planning, capture, processing, and validation of visual work instructions related to aero‑engine maintenance, repair, overhaul, and inspection activities. This role ensures high‑quality, compliant, repeatable visual documentation aligned with standard work practices used in the workshop.
Key Responsibilities- Filming Leadership & Execution
- Lead all filming activities within the workshop following the standardised filming guidelines.
- Capture task steps visually with correct angles, lighting, clarity, and stability.
- Ensure each step is filmed using the "one action – one clip" principle.
- Validate readiness using the Filming Readiness Checklist (task, SME availability, equipment, safety).
- Maintain media quality requirements including resolution, lighting, orientation, and clarity.
- Process Capture & Technical Notes
- Collaborate with the Process & Notes Lead to align on step intent, acceptance criteria, torque/measurement references, and sequencing.
- Capture accurate notes during filming, ensuring all technical details are recorded correctly.
- Support SME technicians in narration and best‑practice demonstration.
- Compliance, Safety & Quality Oversight
- Ensure all content aligns with approved standard practice and aerospace regulations.
- Work closely with Quality Representatives to validate compliance.
- Participate in wrap‑up reviews after each filming session to confirm completeness and identify re‑takes.
- Equipment Setup & Management
- Prepare and operate filming hardware including DSLR/smartphone cameras, lighting rigs, tripods, clamps, and backdrop frames.
- Ensure filming environment meets clarity, lighting, and stability standards.
- Maintain and organise filming equipment for mobile setups across whole‑engine, unit, and component bays.
- Data Processing & Workflow Alignment
- Support the processing phase including clip trimming, annotation, cropping, and clarity checking.
- Ensure alignment between filmed media and documented task notes.
- Contribute to structured output to be fed into a commercial smart manufacturing software
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with SME technicians, Customer Engineers, and workshop management to plan and execute filming schedules.
- Participate in planning activities (task selection, risk assessments, trial filming sessions).
- Ensure all stakeholders are briefed and aligned before filming.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with aero engines (build/strip, inspection, or MRO environment).
- Strong understanding of workshop processes, tooling, safety requirements, and aerospace standards.
- Familiarity with visual content creation (video capture, lighting setup, framing fundamentals).
- Ability to interpret technical task cards, engineering drawings, and acceptance criteria.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating across technicians, engineers, and quality teams.
- High attention to detail and focus on accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
- Ability to work in fast‑paced workshop environments and adapt to varied filming conditions.
- Experience producing technical documentation or digital work instructions.
- Knowledge of media standards (dpi requirements, annotation methods, AOF highlighting).
- Familiarity with Automation tools & electronic work instruction platforms.
