Position: Instrumentation Instructor / Assessor
Location: Aberdeen City

The role of the Instrumentation Instructor/Assessor is to train and assess against national occupational standards for ASET's full range of vocational instrumentation training courses, in accordance with awarding body guidelines.

General Responsibilities

Be a proactive member of the Instrumentation Instructor / Assessor Team, providing effective communication and support to the Operations Manager and all other members of the Senior Management Team.

To comply with the framework provided by North East Scotland College Human Resources, Health & Safety and Information Technology (IT) policies and procedures adopted by the North East Scotland College Regional Board and to ensure full compliance with all ASET procedures in the ASET Staff Handbook.

Main Tasks
  • Delivery and assessment of all ASET's Instrumentation engineering vocational based training programmes to Awarding Body standards
  • Internal verification on all related instrumentation vocational programmes in conjunction with the ASET HR & Quality Assurance Manager
  • Progressive development of the Instrumentation engineering vocational programmes and the training material associated with its delivery
  • Carry out all required administrative and report writing procedures in‑line with the ASET Quality Assurance and Operational procedures
  • Keep an up to date and accurate record of all CPD learning activities
  • Ensure all relevant evidence of learning is accurately and correctly documented and completed for each delegate
  • Provide learning feedback and support to delegates on a one‑to‑one or group basis
  • Review course content and delivery methods on a regular basis
  • Assist in reviewing, changing and offering suggestions for the improvement of Instrumentation engineering training programmes
  • Prepare and assist in Internal and External Audits
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all delegates under his / her supervision comply with ASET and NESCol’s Health & Safety procedures
Knowledge / Skills
  • Current or previous work‑related experience as an onshore or offshore Instrumentation Technician
  • Hands‑on practical‑based maintenance experience operating systems and undertaking the related job role and tasks in the following:
    • Fire and Gas Systems
    • PLC's
    • Instrument Calibration
    • Valve Maintenance
    • Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
    • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD)
  • Knowledge of Instrumentation engineering and maintenance in either an offshore or onshore environment
  • Have a sound knowledge of Instrumentation engineering principles
  • Working knowledge of Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work system
  • Planning and organisational skills
  • Numeracy, literacy and computing skills
