Overview
Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) is one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects, transforming depleted gas fields in the East Irish Sea into a world‑class carbon storage hub. By safely capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO₂ from heavy industry, MNZ will play a vital role in helping the UK achieve its net zero targets while supporting thousands of skilled jobs across the country.
The opportunity is for a Reservoir Simulation Specialist who will deliver specialist subsurface activities to achieve Spirit Energy’s strategic objective of commercialising carbon storage in the South Morecambe and North Morecambe carbon stores. The role aims to provide best‑in‑class reservoir simulation tools and expertise required for compliance with regulatory expectations.

To be confirmed – please provide a PAYE day‑rate banding expectation, notice period and availability to start.
- Significant contribution to all of the critical carbon storage licence deliverables to support a carbon storage permit application.
- Complete rebuild and history‑matching of dynamic models for carbon stores using the latest structural interpretations and geological property distributions.
- Confirm simulation models demonstrate a level of history match that enables high confidence in initial conditions for injection forecast through integration of all available production history data.
- Present and document all dynamic modelling studies for submission to the NSTA in support of a carbon storage permit application.
- Capture the full range of uncertainties in historical field performance and forecasts under a wide range of CO₂ injection scenarios to support the MNZ project.
- Create credible CO₂ storage capacity estimates and forecasts for the carbon storage permit application that are robust to external audit.
- Work closely with drilling to deliver new CO₂ injection well proposals and use simulation models to support legacy well abandonment according to CCS regulations.
- Act as the reservoir simulation focal point for the project to ensure deliverables are to the required standard and that reservoir issues are correctly represented.
- Manage and monitor outsourced technical studies, providing QC of results.
- Provide expertise on coupling of in‑house reservoir modelling to flow assurance as inputs to pre‑FEED/FEED studies.
- Promote and showcase dynamic modelling of the MNZ project at industry forums.
- Maintain operating subsurface simulation models of the carbon store and report carbon storage capacity.
- Deep subsurface technical subject‑matter expertise in dynamic modelling for carbon storage developments.
- Industry‑recognised and trusted expert in the field of dynamic modelling for carbon storage.
- Strong understanding of the UK carbon storage regulatory regime, including licensing, work programme fulfillment and permit application and award.
- Educated to degree level, ideally MSc or MEng in a relevant discipline such as Engineering or Earth Science.
