Job Summary
Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) is one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects, transforming depleted gas fields in the East Irish Sea into a world‑class carbon storage hub. By safely capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO₂ from heavy industry, MNZ will play a vital role in helping the UK achieve its net zero targets while supporting thousands of skilled jobs across the country.
Senior Geophysicist will provide a wide range of geophysical support and technical advice to the business, deliver subsurface licence commitments and work programmes, and identify and mature business growth opportunities for the MNZ carbon storage asset.

Contract Type: PAYE
Day Rate: TBC – applicants should provide PAYE day rate banding expectation.
Responsibilities- Geophysical work feeding into geocellular model building cycles, including structural framework and geomechanical modelling.
- Geophysical work feeding into containment risk assessment and monitoring plan.
- Lead containment risk assessment updates.
- Lead monitoring plan work, including gravity survey design.
- Lead corrective measures work.
- Manage the interface with supply‑chain partners for specialist technical inputs to gravity survey design and other specialist studies.
- Support the subsurface work programme(s) and ensure that the company meets its NSTA carbon storage license commitments and deadlines, whilst remaining aligned with the priorities and constraints of the business.
- Support work to successfully secure a carbon storage permit aligned with the requirements of the MNZ project portfolio.
- Post‑closure planning including decommissioning, post‑closure monitoring and handover plan.
- Maintain technical alignment with wells, above‑ground and commercial aspects of the proposed development.
- Promote the company with stakeholders, including at conferences and other events, to build awareness and confidence in technical competence of the business.
- Input to carbon storage development plan.
- Any other associated duties as reasonably required.
- Deep subsurface technical subject‑matter expertise in geophysics pertaining to carbon storage development.
- Recognised and trusted industry expert with a good understanding of the UK carbon storage regulatory regime, including licensing, work programme fulfilment and permit application and award.
- Strong all‑round geological and geophysical knowledge and interpretation skills.
- Experience with the Petrel software platform.
- Additional familiarity with Geoteric, Paleoscan, GIS software platforms Arc Pro, QGIS etc.
- Experience devising and managing specialist geotechnical study programmes.
- Ability to work effectively in multi‑disciplinary teams, organised self‑starter, highly motivated with well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Educated to at least MSc level in Geology, Geophysics or a related discipline.
- Substantial experience in Oil and Gas or CCS, preferably with a UKCS operator.
