An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Protection & Control Engineer to support the delivery of high‑voltage transmission and distribution projects across the UK. The role will focus on detailed protection design and engineering across grid connection projects, typically ranging from 33 kV to 400 kV. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality technical outputs and supporting projects through design, development, and delivery phases within a consultancy‑led engineering environment.
This position is suited to someone who is comfortable working autonomously in a hybrid/remote setup, while maintaining regular engagement with project teams and stakeholders through scheduled office and site visits every 1‑2 weeks.
- Delivery of detailed protection and control design for transmission and distribution projects (33 kV‑400 kV)
- Production of protection schematics, single line diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation
- Review and interpretation of client requirements to develop appropriate engineering solutions
- Attendance at client and project meetings, representing engineering input clearly and professionally
- Coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external stakeholders including DNO/DSOs
- Support project delivery from early‑stage design through to completion
- Contribution to technical reports, design reviews, and engineering assurance processes
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers where required
- Ensuring compliance with relevant UK, European, and industry standards
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar (minimum 2:1 or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Protection & Control
- Proven experience delivering protection design within UK transmission and distribution projects
- Strong understanding of high‑voltage systems (33 kV‑400 kV)
- Experience producing detailed protection design documentation and technical deliverables
- Working knowledge of CDM regulations and associated design risk responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple project demands
- Progress toward Chartered Engineer status desirable
