The role

As a Senior Marine Development Project Manager, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of the high-voltage electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland, helping to deliver the infrastructure needed to support the transition to net zero.

Joining SSEN Transmission at a time of significant growth and investment, you'll lead the development of major offshore transmission projects, managing activities from early-stage site selection and stakeholder engagement through to planning, consenting and project definition. Depending on your level, you'll take responsibility for complex work streams or provide leadership across large-scale capital projects, with a particular focus on offshore cable systems, marine environmental assessment, marine surveys, cable route development and offshore platform site selection.

Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you'll help de-risk and refine projects ahead of delivery, overseeing activities such as fisheries engagement, public consultation, supply chain engagement, planning and marine consenting to ensure projects are successfully developed and ready for construction.

You will
  • Lead marine survey, investigation and route development activities, including geophysical, geotechnical, UXO, environmental and met ocean surveys, ensuring outputs support route design, consenting and construction planning.
  • Manage offshore cable route development from optioneering and constraint mapping through to landfall assessment, crossing strategy, burial risk assessment and constructability reviews.
  • Deliver key marine consenting and environmental work streams, including marine licence applications, environmental impact assessment inputs, Habitats Regulations Appraisals, fisheries assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Build and manage relationships with a wide range of marine stakeholders, including regulators, Crown Estate Scotland, fisheries, ports and harbours, statutory consultees, landowners, offshore operators and other developers.
  • Drive risk reduction and successful project delivery through effective stakeholder engagement, supply chain management, procurement support, and the management of schedules, costs, risks and governance reporting across marine work streams.
You have
  • A strong appreciation and focus on health and safety, and awareness of how to influence this at the design stage.
  • Extensive experience in the early development phase of large, capital, offshore projects (preferably in the Electrical generation/transmission sectors) and ideally managing projects through the consenting and regulatory approval stages.
  • Strong and demonstrable experience leading and managing key project interfaces across multiple stakeholder groups and external supply chain partners, particularly in a multi-contract delivery model and NEC contracts.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of project management systems, risk management and large capital project governance. Experience of managing and implementing CDM 2015 regulations would be beneficial.
  • Excellent effective communication skills both written and verbal with experience of communication with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including members of the public.
  • A degree qualification, membership of a recognised professional body, and a recognised Project Management qualification would be advantageous.
