As offshore wind projects move into deeper waters, floating offshore wind (FOW) is becoming increasingly important. This creates complex engineering challenges, particularly in mooring and anchoring systems-and that's where you come in.
The RoleAs a Senior Mechanical Engineer within our Balance of Plant team, you will provide technical leadership and accountability across a portfolio of offshore renewable energy projects.
You will lead the design, modelling, analysis and testing of mooring systems, supporting both commercial and collaborative programmes and helping position ORE Catapult as a centre of excellence in offshore renewables.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and be accountable for technical delivery, quality, cost and scope across multiple projects
- Provide subject matter expertise in mooring and anchoring systems, particularly for floating offshore wind
- Deliver and oversee engineering analysis and testing, using ORE Catapult and third-party facilities
- Develop project scopes, ITTs, budgets, timelines and delivery plans
- Manage internal delivery teams and external consultants/contractors
- Support business development, identifying and shaping new project opportunities
- Ensure compliance with HSE, quality and ISO standards
- Produce and review high-quality technical documentation and reports
- Represent ORE Catapult at industry events, workshops and stakeholder forums
- Mentor and support engineers, graduates and interns
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
- Significant experience (typically 7+ years) in mooring/anchoring systems
- Strong technical capability in tools such as Orca Flex, CAD, FEA, MATLAB/Python
- Proven experience delivering engineering projects with full ownership and accountability
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Able to make sound technical decisions and work with a high level of autonomy
- Experience in floating offshore wind
- Awareness of dynamic cables / umbilical's
- Experience working within structured HSE and quality frameworks
- Work on cutting-edge projects at the forefront of offshore renewable energy innovation
- Play a key role in solving challenges in floating offshore wind
