Insight Global are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for an engineering client, focused on mechanical design ownership and the ongoing development and improvement of technically complex products.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of engineering decisions throughout the product lifecycle, combining hands-on mechanical design with a strong PLM/sustaining engineering mindset. The role requires someone who can independently assess technical problems, make informed decisions around materials, components and operating environments, and clearly explain why a particular engineering approach has been taken.
Must-Have Requirements Include:- Strong mechanical engineering and design ownership
, with the ability to take responsibility for technical decisions. - PLM and/or sustaining engineering mindset
, with an understanding of supporting and improving products throughout their lifecycle. - Strong 3D CAD/modelling capability
, ideally using Solid Works. - Sound engineering judgement when selecting materials and mechanical components based on application requirements.
- Ability to evaluate designs against pressure, temperature and environmental constraints
. - Ability to clearly explain the engineering rationale behind design, material and component-selection decisions.
- Strong independent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through technical challenges with limited guidance
. - Collaborative communication style and the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing and project teams.
- Own mechanical design activities and engineering decisions across assigned products and projects.
- Develop and modify 3D CAD models and mechanical designs.
- Assess materials and components against technical and environmental requirements.
- Evaluate mechanical designs for pressure, temperature, reliability and other operating constraints.
- Support existing products from a PLM/sustaining engineering perspective, including resolving manufacturing and field-related engineering issues.
- Document and communicate the technical reasoning behind engineering decisions.
- Independently investigate design problems and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing and other stakeholders to deliver robust, manufacturable designs.
