Applicants should have an Applied Biomedical Science (Hons) degree or a Biomedical Sciences (Hons) degree accredited by the IBMS as suitable for training purposes.
Location & DepartmentThe Clinical Biochemistry Department provides comprehensive core, immunoassay, point of care, specialist protein, metabolic and toxicology services to the North‑East of Scotland, including specialist services to the Orkney and Shetland Islands. The department is accredited by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS ISO 15189) and approved by IBMS/HCPC as a training laboratory.
Training & ProgressionSuccessful candidates will be placed on Band 5 and required to complete their Specialist Portfolio prior to progression to Band 6. Participation in CPD activities is actively encouraged.
Responsibilities- Complete the specialist training programme as outlined by NHS Scotland.
- Participate in the out‑of‑hours rota once trained and competent.
- Support the delivery of biochemistry services in accordance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards.
As of 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. Corresponding increases in the hourly rate will maintain pay levels. NHS Scotland is a disability‑confident employer and commits to inclusive recruitment processes.
