Overview

NHS Lanarkshire presents a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative and collaborative large CAMHS service. We are looking to recruit three consultant child and adolescent psychiatrists to join a supportive consultant psychiatry team.

The dynamic CAMHS service has undergone significant recent development and enhancement. There have been system redesigns to enhance patient care such as the expansion of the CAMHS Tier 4 teams and the implementation of measures to support consultant psychiatrists. The latter has included the development and expansion of a prescribing pharmacy workforce in the service. There has also been the creation of a Children and Young People’s Neurodevelopmental Service which sits alongside CAMHS.

The Neurodevelopmental Service has a team of clinicians from disciplines across Children’s Services and has research links with the University of Glasgow.

The CAMHS service has four locality teams and specialist teams including an eating disorder team, a paediatric psychology team, a team focussing on care‑experienced young people and a team focussing on children and young people impacted by parental mental illness. An infant mental health service is also in place within the health board.

Responsibilities
  • Teach and supervise core and higher trainees and undergraduate medical students.
  • Fulfil leadership and management roles within the service.
  • Lead quality‑improvement and patient‑safety initiatives, including human‑factors training.
  • Engage in research and development activities, collaborating with the University of Glasgow.
  • Proposal and implementation of additional SPA time for service improvement, education, and research.
Qualifications
  • Registered consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist on NHS.
  • Experience in CAMHS or related child and adolescent mental health services.
  • Willingness to work full‑time 10 PAs, with up to 2 non‑DCC, though part‑time applicants are encouraged.
  • Ability to propose additional SPA time aligned with service needs and personal professional development.
Benefits and Opportunities

Applicants can secure honorary status at the University of Glasgow, gaining a staff , access to library and IT facilities, and educational discounts on PC equipment.

Both North and South HSCPs are granted university status and have close links with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).
