What you will do:
  • Perform safe and effective venepuncture and, where competent, cannulation in line with local protocols and infection prevention standards
  • Prepare, label, and handle specimens accurately, ensuring compliance with pathology requirements and transport procedures
  • Deliver care across clinic and domiciliary settings, maintaining patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality
  • Maintain accurate clinical records using electronic systems in line with NHS data governance requirements
  • Identify and elevate any clinical concerns, including difficult access, adverse reactions, or safeguarding issues
Person Specification

Qualifications:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent for HCA applicants
  • Registered Nurse qualification (Adult) for nurse applicants
  • Accredited training in phlebotomy is essential
  • Cannulation competency is desirable or essential depending on role level
Registration and Compliance:
  • NMC registration for nursing applicants
  • Understanding of CQC standards and NHS clinical governance frameworks
  • Knowledge of infection control standards, Health and Safety at Work Act, and data protection requirements GDPR
  • Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities for adults
Experience:
  • Previous experience in phlebotomy services within NHS, primary care, or diagnostic settings
  • Experience working in community or outreach healthcare environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in mobile or non-clinical settings
  • Exposure to high-volume patient-facing roles with service delivery targets
