About the Role

Summary about the role

The New Scots Mental Health and Wellbeing Service is a recovery-focused service built on the principles of social inclusion, empowerment, and person-centred support. The service aims to improve the mental health, wellbeing, and resilience of New Scots by facilitating access to community resources, reducing isolation, and supporting individuals to build meaningful connections and naturally occurring support networks within their local communities.

The service provides support within The Nook
, our national network of drop in community mental health and wellbeing hubs, and through outreach activity across Aberdeen, ensuring that New Scots can access practical, emotional, and wellbeing support in environments that are welcoming, accessible, and culturally sensitive. Working alongside community partners and local services, the team helps individuals overcome barriers to participation, access appropriate mental health support, develop confidence, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

You will work with people on both an individual and group basis, supporting them to identify and achieve their personal goals and aspirations. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of New Scots who may be experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, social isolation, or difficulties adjusting to life in a new country. Through a strengths-based and recovery-focused approach, you will help people improve their wellbeing, develop resilience, and become active participants in their communities.

You must be an effective communicator, highly motivated, culturally aware, and able to work with a high degree of autonomy while building positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

We particularly welcome applications from individuals with lived experience of seeking asylum, refugee resettlement, migration, or the challenges faced by New Scots. We recognise the value that lived experience brings to supporting others and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve.

What we are looking for

We are seeking highly motivated and compassionate individuals who are passionate about improving the mental health, wellbeing, and social inclusion of New Scots, including refugees, people seeking asylum, and other migrant communities.

The service operates primarily between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday. There may be occasional requirements to work outside these hours to support community activities or events, which will always be planned in advance.

The role will primarily be based in our Aberdeen Nook (Marischal Square, Aberdeen, AB10 1BA
); however, regular travel throughout Aberdeen may be required to meet individuals and groups in community…
