The Scottish Ambulance Service is seeking an exceptional people leader to join our leadership community as Deputy Director of People and Culture
.

This is a rare opportunity to influence the future of a national organisation that serves over 5.3 million people across Scotland, employs more than 6,300 staff and 1,200 volunteers. Working closely with the Director of People and Culture, you will play a pivotal role in shaping workforce strategy, driving cultural transformation, and ensuring our people services enable the delivery of outstanding patient care.

As a senior leader within the organisation, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across key People and Culture functions, supporting delivery of the SAS 2030 Strategy and national NHS Scotland workforce priorities.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Director of People and Culture, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership across People and Culture services, including employee relations, recruitment, workforce policy, business partnering and staff governance.
  • Jointly lead the delivery of the SAS 2030 Strategy and contribute to workforce planning and transformation programmes.
  • Provide expert advice to Executive Directors, Board members and senior leaders on complex workforce and employment matters.
  • Lead organisational change initiatives and workforce modernisation programmes.
  • Foster positive partnership working with trade unions, professional organisations and employee representatives.
  • Champion equality, diversity, inclusion, wellbeing and employee engagement.
  • Represent the Scottish Ambulance Service at local, regional and national forums.
About You

We are looking for an influential and values-driven People leader with experience operating at a senior level within complex organisations.

Essential
  • Extensive experience leading people functions within large, complex organisations.
  • Proven expertise in organisational change, transformation and workforce modernisation.
  • Significant experience of employee relations, partnership working and managing complex workforce issues.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • A track record of leading and developing high-performing professional teams.
  • Strategic and operational leadership experience working with senior executives and Boards.
