About the role

We’re looking for a Systems Engineer with 1st / 2nd line experience to join our team. This is a hands‑on technical role supporting multiple clients. You will focus on the day‑to‑day support, maintenance, and improvement of client IT systems, ensuring infrastructure remains stable, secure, and performing in line with service level agreements (SLAs).

You’ll be working across on‑premises and cloud environments, supporting escalated issues from the service desk, assisting with infrastructure changes and projects, and helping to keep client systems running smoothly. This role offers exposure to a broad range of technologies, with support from senior engineers where needed.

What you’ll do
  • Administer and support client servers, networks, and storage solutions across diverse environments.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related infrastructure services.
  • Monitor system health and proactively respond to performance, capacity, and availability issues.
  • Oversee and test backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
  • Deploy, manage, and support Microsoft 365, Azure, and other cloud services.
  • Monitor, investigate, and respond to security threats, vulnerabilities, and breaches.
  • Provide technical support for service desk issues.
  • Troubleshoot incidents across networking, servers, applications, and security layers.
  • Maintain SLA compliance and deliver high‑quality customer service.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and service delivery.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and share knowledge within the team.
  • Support a culture of quality, innovation, and customer focus.
What we are looking for?

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or similar role within an MSP or multi‑client environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022) and Active Directory, including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file/print services.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, including Exchange Online, Intune, and SharePoint.
  • An understanding of networking fundamentals, including VLANs, routing, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Hands‑on experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions (e.g., Veeam, Datto, Acronis).
  • Familiarity with RMM tools such as Datto RMM, N-able, or Connect Wise.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure projects such as migrations, upgrades, and deployments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • High attention to detail with strong documentation skills.
  • A proactive team player with a willingness to learn and share knowledge.
  • Full UK driving license (onsite client visits are required).

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of firewalls and network security appliances (e.g., Sophos, Fortinet, Cisco, Watch Guard, Sonic Wall).
  • Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Entra  (Azure AD), or hybrid environments.
  • Proficiency in virtualisation technologies such as VMware or Hyper‑V.
  • Familiarity with cloud cost management or optimisation tools.
  • Exposure to automation frameworks or infrastructure‑as‑code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Experience supporting macOS or mobile device management (MDM) platforms.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g., Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, NIST).

Certifications (Desirable but Not Essential)
