About the Organisation

Great British Energy (GBE) is a publicly owned energy company, created to accelerate the deployment of clean energy technologies and to ensure UK taxpayers, bill payers, communities and the energy workforce reap the benefits of a clean and secure energy system.

Our ambition is to become a lasting national institution that the British public will be proud of; a developer, constructor and owner of homegrown energy that is Clean, Secure and Yours.

From our base in Aberdeen, we are building GBE not just as a company, but as a cornerstone of the UK’s energy landscape: a trusted, transparent and innovative public champion that stands shoulder to shoulder with the leading state‑owned energy companies of Europe. GBE will become recognised both at home and abroad as a world‑class energy institution that embodies the values, expertise and ambition of the UK.

The Great British Energy Act, which received Royal Assent in May 2025, provided for the UK’s first publicly owned national energy company to develop, own and operate energy assets since the privatisation of the Central Electricity Generating Board in the early 1990s.

GBE Local is central to our strategy. We believe that GB Energy can be a transformative actor in the world of local and community energy and our vision is to make hosting and owning a local energy scheme possible for every community across the country.

The Director of Delivery – Local Energy is responsible for leading the development of GBE delivery model for community and local energy projects, particularly behind the meter solar and battery projects. Enabling GBE to translate the ambition of the Local Power Plan into tangible outcomes for communities, local authorities and the wider public sector.

This role will be responsible for setting the strategy and approach to enable the delivery of local and community energy projects in a standardised way to increase pace, drive efficiencies in delivery. Using the central co-ordination and purchasing power of GBE with a delivery model that maximising local economic and social impact.

Working closely with the Managing Director and peer local Directors and the onshore development team, this role will ensure GBE acts as an effective market maker and delivery integrator - unlocking a pipeline of projects and progressing them from concept through to operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee a deliver model for the development of local and community energy projects, ensuring delivery across the full lifecycle (development, construction and operation where applicable).
  • Ensure alignment of delivery activity with GBE’s strategic objectives, capital allocation priorities and Local Power Plan targets (e.g. scaling to 1,000+ projects).
  • Establish and manage clear delivery roadmaps, milestones and performance tracking frameworks.
Project Execution
  • Take ownership of the execution of projects, ensuring projects progress efficiently from early-stage development to financial close and delivery.
  • Work closely with Market Development to convert pipeline opportunities into funded and deliverable projects.
  • Remove delivery barriers and resolve issues across planning, grid connection, financing and stakeholder alignment.
  • Ensure consistent application of stage-gate processes, standards and governance across the portfolio.
Partner & Supply Chain Management
  • Develop and manage a network of channel or delivery partners ("boots on the ground") to support project delivery at scale.
  • Establish frameworks for partner identification, onboarding, performance management and assurance.
  • Work with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure quality, capacity and value for money in project delivery.
  • Ensure delivery partners meet standards for safety, quality, customer experience and community benefit.
Customer-Centric Delivery
  • Ensure delivery models are customer-focused, accessible and responsive to the needs of local authorities, community groups and public sector organisations.
  • Embed consistent service standards, processes and delivery playbooks across all…
