Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s Critical Care Department continues to evolve as we build on the strong foundations of our already well established, integrated Medical High Dependency Unit and Intensive Care Unit. Together, these services form a large, flexible and cohesive Critical Care department. As the only Scottish centre designated both a Major Trauma Centre and an ECMO centre, we deliver specialist, high acuity care for some of the most complex and critically unwell patients in Scotland.
We are now seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Senior Charge Nurse to join our leadership team.
AboutThe Role
As Senior Charge Nurse, you will play a central role in shaping and delivering our vision of world class, quality focused critical care. You will be part of a supportive and passionate senior nursing team committed to clinical excellence, staff wellbeing and continuous improvement. In this role, you will:
- Lead and support a large, skilled multidisciplinary team
- Promote a culture where high quality, safe, person centered care is at the heart of everything we do
- Drive and support service development and quality improvement initiatives
- Actively contribute to workforce recruitment, retention and development, ensuring our service is equipped to meet current and future NHS challenges
- Work collaboratively with clinical, managerial and external partners across the organisation
- Demonstrate transformative leadership to help shape the evolution of our Critical Care service

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
