Café Manager – Job Overview

The Eastgate Theatre’s Café Manager is responsible for the performance and day-to-day operation of the café and bar and involves managing café/bar staff, casual workers, and volunteers.

The Eastgate Theatre & Arts Centre is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our team as Café Manager. This is a key role within the organisation, responsible for the successful day-to-day operation of our licensed café and bar, which plays a central role in the Eastgate experience for audiences, participants, and visitors.

The Eastgate is a Scottish charity and vibrant arts and community venue in the heart of Peebles, presenting live performances, film screenings, participatory classes, workshops, exhibitions, festivals, and special events, alongside a busy café and bar.

As Café Manager, you will lead and manage the café and bar service, ensuring excellent customer care, high operational standards, and efficient delivery in line with the organisation’s wider business strategy.

You will manage café/bar staff, casual workers, and volunteers; oversee food and drink provision; maintain compliance with food hygiene and licensing regulations; and contribute to the ongoing development of the café as a welcoming, inclusive, and financially sustainable part of the venue.

The role reports to the Executive & Creative Director and involves close working with the wider Eastgate staff team to support performances, screenings, events, and private hires.

Salary and Hours

Salary: £25,500 per year

Hours:

Full‑time permanent, 35 hours per week (flexibly worked across 4–5 days, including evenings and weekends)
