Food Standards Scotland’s (FSS) Scottish Food Crime & Incident Unit (SFCIU) is responsible for the management of all feed and food incidents across Scotland. Lead Incidents Officers report to the Incidents Manager and lead the day to day coordination of incidents. The role will be required to work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure an effective response to incidents where there are concerns about actual or suspected threats to the safety or quality of food and/or feed that require intervention to protect consumers’ interests.

You would communicate with a wide range of stakeholders both domestically and internationally and manage food and feed incidents efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the effective response and handling of food and feed incidents impacting Scotland, managing these in accordance with FSS and UK established procedures.
  • Using your own initiative to deal with incidents, providing advice and guidance to key stakeholders to enable risk mitigation.
  • Provide timely response to requests for information on incident investigations and ensure the accurate collation of statistical data for the unit.
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues across the FSS and wider government and enforcement community.
  • Actively engage with and contribute to any reviews of incidents and investigations to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Proactively raise any concerns over progress of incidents and/or investigations with incident manager in a timely manner.
  • Work under pressure using available information make to evidence-based decisions and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Experience Preferred
  • Current experience in incident response of both routine and non-routine food / feed incidents, ensuring accurate logging of all information and experience in making evidence and risk based decisions.
  • Understanding of appropriate food and feed law including Regulation (EC) No 178/2002.
  • Proven ability to respond effectively during a fast‑paced and changing environment, allied to strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building good working relationships with variety of stakeholders.
Working pattern

This role is a temporary position with an expected commitment of up to 23 months.

Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role, including Flexi‑leave. This post is a full‑time role, but we welcome applications from staff with different working patterns and proposed working patterns will be assessed against the business requirements for this post.
