Duration: Permanent, Full Time

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 10 and above (currently £30,030 per annum / £16.50 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

Our Residential Practitioners create and maintain an emotionally and physically safe environment that supports children and young people who have experienced developmental harm and trauma in their recovery. Working as part of a skilled team, the postholder applies relevant theoretical approaches to safeguard and support young people and contributes to a culture that values care and compassion. The role also supports reparative work with families and communities.

The postholder will be based in one of three residential children’s homes in Aberdeen City and will work a shift pattern that includes evenings and weekends. A shift allowance is payable.

Salary £41442- £46829 and Non Standard Working Week allowance at 33% is paid for hours worked as part of a normal working week between the hours of 8pm-7am Monday to Friday. Non Standard Working Week allowance at 40% is paid for any hours worked over a weekend from midnight on Friday to midnight on Sunday.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

The post holder for Residential Practitioner level 2 needs to hold as a minimum:

  • BA Social Work; CQSW/Diploma in Social Work

OR

  • BA Res Child Care

OR

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Residential Child Care

OR

  • MSc Advanced Residential Childcare
  • SSSC Registration (or achieve this within 3 months in post)
  • Protection of Vulnerable Group Check (PVG)
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
  • Communication skills which engage children and their carers and can demonstrate how language reflects the principles of Write Right About Me, combined with high level self  
  • Direct engagement, care planning approaches supporting young people who have experiences significant adversities throughout their lives
  • Modeling an inclusive approach toward Children’s Rights and to support and develop this in your practice  
  • Awareness and experience of the youth justice and child protection systems
  • Working in accordance with Adult, Child and Public Protection principles
  • Demonstrate abilities which evidence relational practice and engagement
