Schedule: 7:00 am–3:30 pm (0700‑1530) Monday – Friday (Saturday/Sunday off)
The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Physician 3 to provide comprehensive medical care to incarcerated individuals. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Physicians, ANPs, Physician Assistants, and other medical, mental health and administrative staff, and will serve under the supervision of the Facility Medical Director.
Direct Patient Care- Assess physical and emotional conditions of patients during nursing triage, ambulation, care clinics, infirmary rounds, and initiate appropriate intervention per Health Services policies, treatment plans and protocols.
- Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care using required forms and formats.
- Collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary health‑care team to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Respond to health‑care emergencies throughout the facility and institution grounds as needed.
- Participate in care‑review committees as assigned/directed.
- Respond to verbal and written requests from the general public, incarcerated individuals, families and institution staff.
- Participate in Health Services staff meetings and departmental meetings to plan improvements in service and review current operations.
- Participate in care‑review committee meetings as assigned.
- Conduct chart reviews as assigned.
- Complete DOC in‑service training as required.
- Accept emergency assignment in the event of a disturbance.
- Assist with continuing education and in‑service training of health‑care staff as directed.
- Cooperate and collaborate with security.
- Completion of an ACGME/ABOM accredited residency program.
- Board certification in an ABMS/ABOM certified specialty (Internal Medicine preferred). Board‑eligible physicians may be considered with continued employment contingent upon achieving board certification within 24 months of the hiring date (unless the incumbent was in the position prior to 21 Dec 2019).
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Washington State.
- Unrestricted DEA license with waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder. Physicians without an active waiver will be considered, however continued employment will be contingent upon receipt of the waiver within 60 days of the hiring date.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers certified within 60 days of hire. Certification must be maintained as required for continuous employment.
- Experience supervising and/or directing health‑care delivery operations.
- Experience working as an internist in an acute/chronic care setting or correctional facility.
- Certification as a Correctional Health Professional.
