Engineering Design & Technologists, Mechanical Engineer
At Steer Energy, we are passionate about understanding our clients' challenges and providing solutions that solve them.
Our proven track record is built on working with national and international clients operating across a range of sectors, including gas, electricity, low-carbon, water, medical, and nuclear.
To support our work, we are seeking to recruit a Product Engineer based at our Oldmeldrum site in Aberdeenshire.
The RoleThis is a role that sits between our engineering team and our clients. The primary focus is commercial and client-facing: you will be the first point of contact for product enquiries (currently a small range of tools including HyPurge Stack Systems, wHystle™, High Volume Gas Escape Toolkit, Lancet, Blowdown PRI Tool), responsible for ensuring that quotes go out accurately and promptly, and that customers receive the technical support they need to get the best value from our products.
An example of previous work can be found here:
When not engaged with client or commercial activity, you will contribute directly to the engineering team - working on continuous improvement of existing products and supporting the development of new ones.
This gives the role genuine variety: you need to be as comfortable talking to a customer about a technical problem as you are reviewing a design or writing a test report.
This is a role for someone with a strong engineering foundation who is ready to develop commercially.
Core ActivitiesClient-facing and commercial (primary focus):
- Acting as the primary point of contact for product enquiries - responding promptly, knowledgeably, and with generosity.
- Preparing and issuing accurate technical quotations - working with the engineering team to scope requirements and price correctly
- Providing pre- and post-sales technical support - helping customers understand product capabilities, deployment, and operation
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing customers, identifying opportunities to support them further
- Feeding customer insight back into the product development process - capturing issues, feature requests, and field performance data
- Supporting the preparation of product marketing materials, datasheets, and technical documentation for external use
Engineering (secondary focus):
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of existing products - design iterations, reliability improvements, and cost reduction
- Supporting new product development projects as an active engineering team member
- Assisting with product testing, documentation, and certification activities
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the product range to underpin confident client conversations
- A background in engineering - degree-level qualification or equivalent practical experience in a relevant discipline
- Confident, professional communicator - able to represent Steer clearly and credibly with clients at all levels
- Organised and commercially minded, with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and priorities simultaneously
- Familiarity with engineered products in regulated sectors (energy, utilities, industrial, or similar)
- CAD - experienced in generating 3D models and 2D production drawings (Solid Works, Fusion 360, or similar)
- Understanding of product certification, compliance, or approval processes
- Comfortable working between a client-facing role and a hands-on engineering environment
- Strong written English skills, including technical report writing
To be considered for this role, you should be able to demonstrate that you can reflect Steer Energy’s core values:
- Driven by technical excellence with strong attention to detail
- Happy to work as a team, but confident in driving your own productivity
- Always looking for opportunities for personal and professional improvement
- Comfortable with challenges and able to express yourself constructively when challenged
- Positive and proactive in your approach to achieving solutions, viewing being wrong as an opportunity to advance your knowledge
By developing people who know their purpose and value, we avoid being a company that focuses purely on a spreadsheet or “the bottom line”.
As a member of the Steer Energy team, you will receive:
- A competitive salary that is commensurate with your experience and expertise
- Clear career progression and opportunities for development
- 25 days of holiday entitlement per year, plus 8 bank holidays
- Private healthcare coverage and company pension
