To support our work, we are seeking to recruit a Product Engineer based at our Oldmeldrum site in Aberdeenshire.

The Role

The role requires working within a growing, dynamic unit to complete a range of projects. As part of this group, the successful candidate will be involved in all stages of our projects from conception to delivery, including planning, researching, developing concepts, engineering, and preparing and carrying out testing and qualification.

An example of previous work can be found here:

The core activities for this role include:

  • Designing mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms using CAD - generating 3D models and 2D production drawings
  • Designing electrical control assemblies, producing electrical schematics, selection of components and producing bills of materials.
  • Integrating and commissioning electromechanical systems - working with actuators, servo drives, sensors, and control hardware to achieve reliable system performance
  • Development of software for control, test and measurement systems in the workshop and for production products
  • Selecting appropriate materials, etc., for the operating environment
  • Building, assembling, and troubleshooting prototype hardware and software in the workshop
  • Planning and executing workshop testing – function testing, load testing, sealing, fatigue, and environmental performance
  • Supporting field trials and gathering feedback to drive design iteration
  • Writing clear technical documentation - test reports, risk assessments, method statements, and customer-facing content
  • Supporting product certification and compliance activities (e.g. UKCA, CE marking)
  • Designing for manufacture - working with machinists and fabricators to produce parts
Candidate Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline - or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Strong CAD proficiency - experienced in generating 3D models and 2D production drawings (Solid Works, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Practical hands-on skills - comfortable building, assembling, and modifying prototype hardware in a workshop environment
  • Experience selecting and applying materials, seals, and mechanical fixings appropriate to the application
  • Experience working with electromechanical systems — actuators, servo or stepper drives, sensors, and associated control hardware
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and contribute to embedded software testing and iteration (experience with C/C++, Python, or similar platforms is an advantage)
  • Ability to design for manufacture and communicate effectively with external machinists and fabricators
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing
