Job Description & How to Apply Below
We’re looking for a Principal Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer to join our Aberdeen team, taking a senior technical role across a range of onshore and offshore projects.
This is an opportunity to use your technical expertise and engineering judgement to independently assess, verify and certify electrical and instrumentation systems throughout the full asset lifecycle. You’ll work closely with clients, contractors and internal engineering teams, providing trusted technical guidance and helping ensure assets remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
What you'll be doing;
As a Principal E&I Engineer, you’ll work independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams, with responsibilities including:
Carrying out independent verification of electrical and instrumentation design, installation and integrity.
Reviewing the design, analysis, selection and rating of electrical equipment and systems for offshore and onshore facilities.
Assessing compliance against project specifications, industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Providing technical evaluation of E&I studies and deliverables across FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, modification and decommissioning.
Reviewing engineering drawings, datasheets, specifications, calculations, studies and analyses.
Participating in HAZOP, SIL, FMECA and other technical and risk assessments.
Preparing and reviewing technical findings, appraisal reports, compliance assessments, verification reports and verification statements.
Supporting surveillance activities, audits, inspections and witness activities.
Working directly with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders.
Planning and monitoring project resources, schedules and engineering hours.
Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
What we're looking for:
We’re looking for an accomplished E&I professional who combines strong technical knowledge with the confidence to make independent engineering judgements.
Ideally, you'll have:
A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent, although this is preferred rather than essential.
At least 15 years' relevant engineering experience within the oil, gas and/or process industries.
A minimum of 10 years' experience working on offshore projects.
Proven experience within independent verification and certification.
Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems across design, procurement, installation, commissioning and operations.
Experience supporting life extension, integrity assessment and the continued operation of ageing assets.
Your technical expertise:
You’ll bring strong working knowledge across areas such as:
Electrical power systems
Electrical equipment selection and rating
Instrumentation and control systems
Hazardous area equipment and compliance
Functional safety and SIL assessments
Asset integrity and reliability
Life extension assessments
Risk-based verification and certification
You’ll also be familiar with relevant industry codes and standards, including IEC, ISO, API, NFPA, IEEE, BS/EN, ATEX, IP and applicable HSE requirements.
Experience using AutoCAD, ETAP or equivalent electrical engineering software, alongside Microsoft Office, would also be beneficial.
What will make you successful?
Beyond your technical knowledge, we’re looking for someone who can operate confidently at Principal Engineer level. You’ll be:
Analytical, with excellent engineering judgement.
Highly focused on technical accuracy and attention to detail.
A confident communicator with strong technical report-writing skills.
Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities.
Able to build effective relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Passionate about sharing your expertise and mentoring other engineers.
Collaborative, professional and comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
Ready for your next challenge?
If you're an experienced E&I professional looking for a senior role where your technical expertise, judgement and experience will genuinely make an impact, we'd love to hear from you.
