The Piano Tutor will provide high-quality, student-centered piano instruction to children, young people, and adults at varying levels, from beginners to advanced learners. This role is based in Aberystwyth, with a combination of in-person lessons at the institute (and potentially partner locations) and some preparation, administration, and online teaching from home.

Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering engaging lessons, setting clear learning goals, selecting appropriate repertoire, and adapting teaching approaches to different learning styles and abilities. The tutor will assess progress, provide constructive feedback, prepare students for performances and examinations (where appropriate), and maintain clear lesson records.

Additional tasks include communicating professionally with learners and caregivers, collaborating with colleagues on programs and events, and contributing to the institute’s creative, inclusive learning environment.

• Strong piano performance skills with solid technical foundation, musicality, and the ability to demonstrate a range of styles and repertoire.
• Experience in piano pedagogy and music education, including lesson planning, curriculum development, and adapting methods for different ages and abilities. (desirable)
• Knowledge of music theory, sight-reading, and aural skills, with the ability to integrate these elements into practical, engaging lessons.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient, encouraging, and culturally sensitive approach to working with diverse learners.
• Organizational and time-management skills to handle scheduling, progress tracking, and reporting in a structured, reliable manner.
• Comfort with basic digital tools for lesson preparation, online teaching platforms, and maintaining electronic records.
• Formal training in music (e.g., degree, diploma, or equivalent professional experience) and prior teaching experience in individual or group settings. (desirable)
• Commitment to inclusive, learner-centered education and openness to ongoing professional development and collaboration with the team.
• Ability to work on-site in Aberystwyth for in-person sessions and readiness to work some evenings or mornings (required)
