British Sign Language (BSL) Learning Support Assistant – Aberystwyth

Teacher Active is currently recruiting a British Sign Language (BSL) Learning Support Assistant to work within a welcoming and inclusive school in Aberystwyth. This is a rewarding opportunity to support a pupil with hearing impairment, helping them access the curriculum, build confidence, and thrive both academically and socially.

• Provide dedicated one‑to‑one support for a deaf or hearing‑impaired pupil.
• Use BSL to facilitate communication throughout the school day.
• Support pupils in accessing lessons and participating in classroom activities.
• Work closely with teachers and the wider SEN/ALN team to deliver tailored support.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and social development.
• Help create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment.

• BSL qualification or proven competency in British Sign Language (Level 2 or above desirable).
• Previous experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEN or ALN is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
