Position Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for a construction project’s overall direction, completion, and financial outcome. 80% – 90% of the time will be spent working in the field on the construction project. You will be responsible for organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specifications, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work through the project team.

You will also work to maintain positive relationships with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

District Overview

Kiewit’s South Central District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects may include mass grading, drainage, paving, utility, and more. While most work is regionally based in the south‑central U.S., we also pursue projects across the country. We seek individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry rather than design.

Location

All roles are project‑based and require mobility throughout the South‑Central District, including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and direct project teams by providing communication, coordination, and follow‑up to meet project goals and objectives; ensure scope, schedule, and budget are clearly defined and understood.
  • Establish project procedures consistent with contractual documents and quality plans for all engineering work; oversee project controls, schedules, and budgets.
  • Serve as project representative with client, contractor, subcontractors, and vendors at kick‑off meetings, job walks, project reviews, and other meetings and correspondence.
  • Coordinate training and compliance measures to ensure project procedures are followed.
  • Identify and secure necessary approvals for all changes in scope, budget, and/or schedule.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with client, making adjustments as necessary to comply with client needs within contractual obligations, or to adjust project deliverables to meet client and Kiewit needs.
  • Ensure all work products are consistent with industry standards and in accordance with good engineering practice and applicable codes, and in compliance with all pertinent legal codes and requirements.
  • Provide ongoing training and mentoring to entry- and mid-level engineers to promote employee development.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of basic engineering fundamentals and practices to track and budget progress with project milestones.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ related experience and/or training, specifically in the construction industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, union agreements and jurisdictional issues, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings, and other documents.
  • Self‑starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes related to Kiewit’s policies, procedures and software programs.
  • Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
  • Ability to access all areas on a construction project site.
