As a Kiewit Superintendent, you will be responsible for a variety of field activities to execute construction work on our projects. In the first few years you will learn and work on work plans, shop drawings, submittals, 5‑week schedules, craft supervision, and project documentation. During this learning phase you will travel the country building complex projects that profoundly impact communities. District

Overview

Kiewit Southwest District specializes in heavy civil, transportation and water projects. We operate primarily in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada and Utah. Projects include highways, bridges, runways, terminals, transit systems, power plants, water treatment facilities, dams, canals, wastewater treatment plants and tunnels.

Location

Home base is Phoenix, Arizona, but this position will travel and work on projects in Idaho Falls and/or Cascade, Idaho. Must be willing to travel where the work is located and could be assigned to a project in Utah, TX, New Mexico and additional states as our projects begin to unfold in 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Provide supervisory direction of craft workers through the foreman, managing performance of productivity, safety, quality and schedule adherence.
  • Liaison between field engineering and craft to ensure compliance with construction drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate and interface effectively with other superintendents, subcontractors, and Kiewit staff personnel and leadership to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence.
  • Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties, informing project management as appropriate.
  • Assist in schedule planning, determining craft labor levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements.
  • Ensure project rules, procedures and programs are followed consistently, including safety, attendance, and workplace behavior standards per Company’s non‑harassment and nondiscrimination policies.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience overseeing self‑performed concrete work in a heavy civil construction environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction disciplines, union agreements, jurisdictional issues, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings and documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently supervise and evaluate craft performance.
  • Highly motivated, with a passion for excellence and initiative.
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
  • Commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Passion for safety, ensuring nobody gets hurt.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
