Infectious Disease Physician (MD/DO)
Position Summary
The Infectious Disease Physician provides expert evaluation, diagnosis, and management of infectious diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings. This role includes the treatment of complex and emerging infections, guidance on antimicrobial therapy, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support high-quality, evidence-based patient care and infection prevention efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Evaluate and manage patients with acute and chronic infectious diseases
- Diagnose and treat bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections
- Provide inpatient consultation services and outpatient clinic care
- Guide appropriate antimicrobial selection, dosing, and duration
- Participate in antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention initiatives
- Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, surgeons, pharmacists, and microbiology teams
- Interpret diagnostic studies including laboratory testing, cultures, and imaging
- Participate in infection control activities, outbreak response, and policy development as applicable
- Educate patients, families, and healthcare staff regarding infectious diseases and treatment plans
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives
- Supervise and educate advanced practice providers, residents, or fellows as applicable
- Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited internal medicine or pediatrics residency program
- Completion of an accredited infectious disease fellowship program
- Board-eligible or board-certified in Infectious Disease
- Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
- DEA registration or eligibility
- Expertise in diagnosis and management of complex infectious diseases
- Strong clinical judgment and analytical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and consultation skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and patient safety
- Inpatient hospital settings and outpatient infectious disease clinics
- Call coverage as determined by practice or service needs
- Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout clinical environments
- Manual dexterity for examinations and office-based procedures
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and data interpretation
Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.
