Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations, the Safety Training Specialist will help design and conduct various safety trainings such as GWO Basic Safety Training, Confined Space Rescue, Competent Person, and other related safety trainings to align employee performance with the goals of the organization. The Specialist will determine training objectives, write training programs—including outlines, handouts, courses, and exams—and design practical exercises.
The Specialist will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, require a wide degree of creativity and latitude, and perform other related duties as needed.
- Deliver at-height training to RWE technicians on rescue response and first aid techniques in multi-brand wind turbines and solar farms
- Independently manage classroom presentations and lead real‑world training scenarios for students to ensure safe and effective rescue response
- Design and develop instructor‑led training (ILT) and eLearning on various safety topics such as GWO Basic Safety Training, Working at Heights, First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness, Confined Space Rescue, Competent Person, etc.
- Upload and maintain training material on the LMS and generate accurate records and reports
- Continuously evaluate and update training materials
- Perform site visits to conduct training, administer exams, evaluate competencies, and implement practical exercises
- Support development of other instructors through peer evaluation and feedback
- Ensure all participants meet learning objectives in course and module outlines during delivery
- Continuously develop new competencies and rescue techniques on multi‑brand turbines to support rescue response for all turbines serviced by RWE technicians
- Participate in training audits as required
- Associate's degree in education, learning, training, or wind turbine technology
- GWO IQT or IQTX or IQTT certification required
- OSHA 500/501 trainer course for construction/general highly desired
- Minimum 3 years of experience working at height in the wind industry or similar
- Minimum 2 years delivering GWO Basic Safety Training (BST)
- Minimum 2 years delivering formal training programs for adult learners in a safety or technical discipline
- Good knowledge of conducting PPE inspections, training administration tools, and processes
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and pivot as priorities shift
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Initiative—must work with minimum supervision and make decisions for discipline matters with limited information; identify training opportunities and improve internal initiatives
- Problem solving—good ability to plan, organize, and deliver training in dynamic field environments to meet objectives
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
- Interpersonal skills—proven record of dealing with management and technical teams; skilled in conflict resolution, facilitation, and empathy; effective communication across diverse backgrounds
- Technical knowledge—high level knowledge of rescue equipment, first aid concepts, and safe work methods for wind turbines
- Detail‑ and deadline‑oriented mindset while managing multiple and changing priorities
- Flexibility—able to adjust plans and travel on short notice
- Resource management—effective use of available resources to achieve goals
- Desire to learn about the company and the renewables space
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
- Knowledge of and experience with hand and power tools
- Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
- Willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
- Must maintain GWO IQT/IQTX or IQTT, competent fall protection & rescue trainer, or equivalent certifications
- Must maintain First Aid/CPR/AED trainer certification
- Ability to push, pull, and lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lb
