Controls Specialist – Data Center Project
Location: Abilene, TX
Type: Contract | Onsite
Pay: $44/hr – $63/hr
Per Diem: Available for qualifying days
Tools: Provided
System One is seeking experienced Controls Specialists to support a major data center construction and commissioning project in Abilene, Texas
. This role is ideal for candidates with strong hands‑on experience in controls, automation, I&C checkout, and commissioning within industrial, manufacturing, or mission‑critical environments.
You will work onsite with a multidisciplinary team ensuring that building control systems—including HVAC, electrical, lighting, and building automation—are correctly installed, tested, and optimized for performance and reliability.
Responsibilities- Install, configure, and commission control systems for HVAC, electrical, lighting, and building automation
- Perform I/O checkout, functional testing, and verification of field devices and control logic
- Diagnose and resolve control system performance issues during commissioning
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust system parameters for optimal functionality
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
- Document test results, configuration changes, and commissioning reports
- Collaborate with engineers, construction teams, and other technicians to ensure project milestones are met
- Maintain compliance with safety standards and company policies
Required:
- 3+ years of experience with control systems, automation, commissioning, or instrumentation
- Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, or building automation systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Experience performing I/O checkout and system startup
- Proficiency with control platforms such as PLC, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, or HMI
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work onsite in a construction or mission‑critical environment
Preferred:
- Technical degree or certification in electrical, mechanical, or control systems (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in data centers, industrial facilities, or other complex infrastructure projects
- Hands‑on, mechanically and technically inclined professionals
- Experience in automation, commissioning, controls integration, field service, or construction
- Comfortable troubleshooting with laptops, meters, and hand tools
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Detail‑oriented, proactive, and safety‑focused
