Controls Specialist – Data Center Project

Pay: $44/hr – $63/hr
Per Diem: Available for qualifying days

System One is seeking experienced Controls Specialists to support a major data center construction and commissioning project in Abilene, Texas
. This role is ideal for candidates with strong hands‑on experience in controls, automation, I&C checkout, and commissioning within industrial, manufacturing, or mission‑critical environments.

You will work onsite with a multidisciplinary team ensuring that building control systems—including HVAC, electrical, lighting, and building automation—are correctly installed, tested, and optimized for performance and reliability.

• Install, configure, and commission control systems for HVAC, electrical, lighting, and building automation
• Perform I/O checkout, functional testing, and verification of field devices and control logic
• Diagnose and resolve control system performance issues during commissioning
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust system parameters for optimal functionality
• Interpret and work from technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
• Document test results, configuration changes, and commissioning reports
• Collaborate with engineers, construction teams, and other technicians to ensure project milestones are met
• Maintain compliance with safety standards and company policies

Required:

• 3+ years of experience with control systems, automation, commissioning, or instrumentation
• Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, or building automation systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
• Experience performing I/O checkout and system startup
• Proficiency with control platforms such as PLC, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, or HMI
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to work onsite in a construction or mission‑critical environment

Preferred:

• Technical degree or certification in electrical, mechanical, or control systems (or equivalent experience)
• Experience in data centers, industrial facilities, or other complex infrastructure projects

• Hands‑on, mechanically and technically inclined professionals
• Experience in automation, commissioning, controls integration, field service, or construction
• Comfortable troubleshooting with laptops, meters, and hand tools
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Detail‑oriented, proactive, and safety‑focused
