Position Information
In this role, you will serve as a key leader within the central design team; providing guidance, resolving technical issues, and helping ensure the timely delivery of high-quality PS&E (Plans, Specifications, and Estimate) packages. By fostering strong communication, collaboration, and consistency, you’ll help maintain a productive work environment, uphold project standards, and keep schedules on track. If you have experience performing and reviewing design work and supporting coworkers through complex submittals, this role offers the chance to directly contribute to both project success and team growth.

The essential duties for the Design Project Coordinator I include:
- Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.
- Designs projects, making design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.
- May assist in planning and coordinating office operations.
- May schedule, coordinate and prepare documents for public hearings.
- May serve as a lead worker or project leader.
- Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.
- Reviews and compiles complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature.
- Reviews environmental documents.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional duties for the Design Project Coordinator II include:
- Serves as program coordinator responsible for coordination of complex engineering/architectural projects from initiation to completion.
Additional duties for the Design Project Coordinator III include:
- May lead project or planning activities of professional and technical employees or consultants.
Additional duties for the Design Project Coordinator IV include:
- Assists in planning and coordinating office operations.
- Provides training for area of responsibility.
- Serves as lead worker and subject matter expert.
Design Project Coordinator I requires the following:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Experience: 7 YEARS Design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
Design Project Coordinator II requires the following:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Experience: 8 YEARS Design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
Design Project Coordinator III requires the following:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Experience: 9 YEARS Design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
Design Project Coordinator IV requires the following:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Experience: 9 YEARS Design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
Licenses and CertificationsValid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Required Competencies- Computer-aided drafting and design systems
- Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
- Program/project planning, development, and management methodologies
- Building code standards and industry guidelines
- Performing advanced drafting
- Planning, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing the work of professional, administrative and technical employees
- Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
