Overview

TxDOT Abilene District Construction Office is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Material/Process Inspector to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring the quality and compliance of asphalt mixtures used in our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to accuracy, teamwork, and will be an integral part in the construction of our Texas Roadways with Safety our #1 priority.

Salary

Minimum Salary: 45,521.00

Maximum Salary: 60,000.00

Pay Basis:
Yearly

FLSA Status:
Nonexempt

Work Locations:
Abilene District Headquarters 4250 NORTH CLACK, Abilene 79601

Travel:
Yes, 5% of the Time

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers.
  • Maintains and calibrates equipment.
  • Maintains field record books for each construction project within assigned area office.
  • Performs tests and inspection duties.
  • Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
  • Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
  • Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience: No experience required (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

Licenses and

Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • HMA Roadway Spec-IB
  • HMA Mix Design Spec-II

Conditions:

  • Must have or obtain the required licenses or certifications listed above within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
  • Giving attention to detail and reviewing information to identify any errors and problems; ensuring consistency and clarity of information.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.

  • Subject to atmospheric conditions-fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation.
  • Medium work:
    Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time.
  • Lifting-raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position.
  • Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
  • Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
