ERS NETA Electrical Testing Technician - Abilene

Electrical Reliability Services, Inc. invites applications for an Electrical Testing Technician to troubleshoot, test and inspect electrical apparatus, and lead electrical power distribution system projects in Abilene, TX.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of testing and maintenance of electrical power distribution systems.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and simple relay calibration, use load recording instrumentation, and test low and medium voltage switch gear up to 15 kV.
  • Test and troubleshoot moderately complex electrical systems and power metering.
  • Perform simple power‑system studies, including short‑circuit and protective device coordination.
  • Prepare detailed reports and process job billing promptly at project completion.
  • Execute complex analyses and equipment‑labeling projects that adhere to industry and international standards, local jurisdiction requirements and company procedures.
  • Participate actively in business development and expansion activities.
  • Prepare written proposals to clients, including estimates of man‑hours and expenses, and develop scope and pricing.
Qualifications
  • BSEE or BSME with no experience, or a graduate from an applicable electrical technical program with a minimum of 3 years experience, or high‑school graduate with a minimum of 4 years experience in the field.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industry standards (OSHA, NFPA).
  • Passed the National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) exam.
  • Strong background in 15 kV class switch gear testing.
  • Good theoretical understanding of electrical power systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with clients and peers.
  • Sound judgment, dependability, ability to supervise projects with technical expertise and business‑management skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, internet research, computer‑controlled test equipment).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, night work, and to travel out of town or internationally up to several weeks.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequently sit, climb and balance; requires close, distance, color vision and focus adjustment.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lb; frequently lift and/or move 100‑lb test sets.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Education & Experience
  • Graduate Engineer BSEE or BSME with no experience; or graduate of an applicable electrical technical school or military equivalent with at least 3 years same or similar work experience; or high‑school graduate with at least 4 years of same or similar work experience.
  • Knowledge of NEC and industry standards (OSHA, NFPA).
  • Passed NETA exam.
  • Strong background and experience in all types of switch gear testing through 15 kV class.
  • Good theoretical understanding of electrical power systems.
  • Excellent communication and judgment, dependable, supervises projects with technical expertise and business‑management skills.
  • Strong computer skills: editing, formatting, templates in Microsoft Word; internet research; operation of computer‑controlled test equipment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, night work, out‑of‑town and international travel up to several weeks.
