Job Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services. The role may be assigned to a specific medical specialty department (e.g., orthopedics).

• Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting. If not yet a CMA you will receive all hours required for the CMA exam. Hendrick Clinic will cover the fee for the first exam.
• Minimum Work Experience
  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience with electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current is required.
• Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant within 26 months of hire
  • Must possess a current CPR certification
• Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures
  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practice
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families
  • Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately
  • Skill in diplomacy in interpersonal interactions
  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
