Overview
Data Center Technician-3 role is the technical liaison between technology teams and the Data Center Environment. You will troubleshoot and solve most infrastructure issues, know when to escalate to resolver groups, and create and maintain documentation on technologies you support. You should understand all aspects of the equipment you support and be able to make autonomous decisions while paying attention to details.
This position involves working on a 24/7 shift rotation. Employment for all candidates is contingent upon satisfactory background checks.
- Act as a data center SME liaison to other technical teams and non-technical teams (e.g., networking, computing, compliance, business operations).
- Understand internal customer problems and provide technical solutions in a timely manner.
- Participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all production server hardware and software.
- Perform system board level repair and fault diagnosis to SLAs.
- Plan and commission new rack positions; contribute to the design and commissioning of new white spaces.
- Lead structured cabling installation; coordinate with peer level ICs to formulate solutions to a variety of problems.
- Train and ensure adherence to health and safety processes; mentor junior technicians as needed.
- Contribute to moderately complex aspects of projects; recognize when failure to obtain results would have serious consequences.
- Collaborate with internal and external contacts; may take on project lead responsibilities.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience. Recent graduates and gap year students considered if they show interest and willingness to learn.
- Prefer 5 years of data center experience; 4 years for development.
- Experience in mission-critical operations environments; ability to work in a physically demanding role (lift up to 25 kg, may work in cramped spaces or elevated locations).
- Thorough understanding of data center design, including electrical and cooling systems and airflow management (hot aisle/cold aisle, containment).
- Experience with rack and stack equipment, commissioning new racks, and cable management (fiber and copper).
- Strong problem-solving and contingency planning; ability to operate with minimal supervision and guide junior technicians.
- Leadership experience supervising 10+ people in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to resolve issues independently and implement stop-gap measures as needed; effective communication with technicians and management.
- Ability to coordinate with peers and formulate solutions to multiple problems.
- Training and adherence to policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Systems & hardware expertise:
Linux/Windows servers (command line), hardware repair and diagnosis, networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP), IT hardware concepts (RAID, SAN, x86, SCSI, FC, Ethernet, iLO), base OS installs/configuration, core OS services (SSH, Telnet, RDP, FTP, NFS, DNS, DHCP, serial).
