Position: Community Engagement Specialist (Part-Time) - Abilene

Overview

Community Engagement Specialist (Part-Time) - Abilene. The Community Engagement Specialist (Part-Time) will work 25-30 hours a week with a varying schedule and report to the Community Engagement Lead. This role is responsible for directly engaging with the public to represent Girl Scouts as an organization, promote the benefits of being a Girl Scout, and identify and attract new Girl Scout members, adult volunteers, and community partners within an assigned geographic area.

The position aims to appeal to a diverse population of Girl Scouts that reflects the community, and to establish relationships with community partners that could offer unique programming or support Girl Scout programming financially, seamlessly transitioning those relationships to other departments for ongoing cultivation. The role also prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and access to ensure the best quality Girl Scout leadership experience for girls.

Responsibilities
  • Increase Girl Scouts’ visibility, enhance reputation, and engage with the community through networking, collaboration, and events.
  • Establish, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with schools, community organizations, faith-based organizations, and businesses to promote and deliver Girl Scouting within the assigned community.
  • Meet or exceed annual new membership recruitment and lead generation goals for girl and adult members.
  • Plan and execute events to increase community awareness of the benefits and outcomes of Girl Scouts and attract more members and volunteers.
  • Nurture leads from in-person events and digital campaigns by communicating effectively in writing, by phone, and in person to promote the Girl Scout experience.
  • Recruit adult volunteers to key leadership positions within a troop.
  • Utilize Volunteer Systems (Salesforce) to consistently document members and lead communications.
  • Collaborate with departmental management, teammates, and other departments to inform membership and partner development strategies, plans, and tactics.
  • Identify underserved neighborhoods and work with other departments to establish service delivery opportunities that meet community needs.
  • Ensure all grassroots engagements and activities maintain access to Girl Scouting among a diverse population.
  • Participate in year-round Girl Scout recruitment campaigns including fall, winter-daisy, extended-year, and summer.
  • Respond professionally through email, phone, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Enhance Girl Scouts’ reputation through positive public interactions.
  • Manage, organize, and maintain files, logs, operating procedures, and records related to this position.
  • Actively update database records and maintain data consistency and integrity.
  • Utilize council reporting tools to analyze and act on new membership and lead data.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Perform other duties or assist on other projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Membership in the Girl Scout organization.
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Girl Scouting.
  • Courtly, respectful, and professional demeanor with coworkers, volunteers, and others in contact with the organization.
  • Verbal fluency, good grammar, and professional appearance.
  • Willingness to work with all people without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
  • Proven ability to work with volunteers, community leaders, organizations, and businesses.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and produce results.
