Abingdon & Witney College is seeking an enthusiastic and industry-experienced Hourly Paid Lecturer in Hairdressing to join our successful Hair and Beauty department. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified hairdressing professional who is keen to share their expertise and help learners develop the technical skills, confidence and professionalism required for a successful career in the hairdressing industry.

About the Role

As an Hourly Paid Lecturer in Hairdressing, you will deliver high-quality teaching and learning across a range of hairdressing programmes, helping students achieve their full potential and prepare for employment within the industry. You will create an engaging learning environment that inspires learners, supports achievement and promotes professional standards throughout their studies.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Delivering engaging practical and theory-based hairdressing lessons.
  • Planning, preparing and evaluating high-quality learning activities.
  • Assessing student work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
  • Monitoring learner progress and supporting successful outcomes.
  • Maintaining a safe, professional and industry-standard salon environment.
  • Supporting learners to develop both technical and employability skills.
  • Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion within the learning environment.
  • Contributing to curriculum development, quality improvement and departmental initiatives.
About You

Essential experience:

  • Has substantial industry experience within hairdressing.
  • Holds a relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent vocational qualification.
  • Is a qualified teacher or is willing to work towards a teaching qualification.
  • Demonstrates excellent practical and teaching skills.
  • Has a passion for learner success and providing outstanding student support.
  • Can inspire and motivate learners from a range of backgrounds.
  • Has a good understanding of safeguarding and learner welfare.

Desirable experience:

  • An Assessor or Verifier qualification.
  • Experience of teaching within a post-16 or further education setting.
  • Established links with employers and industry networks.

Any successful candidates will be required to complete a structured training pathway, unless they already hold the relevant qualifications. This includes a two-week teacher induction, followed by the Award in Education and Training (AET), and then the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) apprenticeship. There is also the option to pursue Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at a later stage.
