As an Applications Engineer
, you’ll be playing a key role in shaping how our technology performs in real-world customer environments. You’ll be acting as the bridge between customers and engineering, helping refine and elevate our products through hands‑on application insight.

Based in Abingdon, Oxford

- Leading and delivering customer demonstrations and characterisation activities
- Presenting results clearly to both customers and internal teams
- Acting as the go‑to contact for application‑related queries and technical support
- Diagnosing and solving complex cross‑disciplinary challenges (mechanics, optics, electronics, software, algorithms)
- Supporting and developing our applications lab and technical capabilities
- Driving application‑focused projects to ensure we are meeting and exceeding customer needs
- Gathering and feeding back customer insights to Engineering and R&D to shape product improvements
- Travelling internationally (typically 10–20%) to support customers onsite
To succeed as an Applications Engineer, we do need you to have experience of:
- Working hands‑on in a technical engineering or physical science environment (5+ years)
- Supporting customer‑facing technical activities
, including demonstrations or product validation - Leading or contributing to characterisation of complex systems or equipment
- Communicating technical concepts clearly, both written and verbal
- Working across disciplines to solve complex technical problems
Nice to have:
- Experience working with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
- Exposure to semiconductor environments or metrology equipment
- Working with optical systems (lasers/fibres), electronics, or electro‑mechanical systems
- Experience using scanning electron microscopes (SEM)
- Exposure to product marketing or customer‑driven product development
- A Master’s degree in a Physical Science or Engineering discipline
, or - Equivalent hands‑on experience through industry or alternative pathways
