Equipment Operator

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair of town streets, alleys, and right-of-way, including removing snow, salting roadways, mowing town properties, sweeping, patching, installing flags and banners, and removing debris.
• Collect solid waste.
• Set and maintain barricades, cones, and necessary signs for events or hazards.
• Direct traffic for projects as required.

• Knowledge of the town geography and location of important buildings.
• Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
• Ability to apply basic concepts regarding personal safety and avoidance of property damage.
• Knowledge of policies, procedures, and activities of VDOT and the Public Works Department as they pertain to the performance of duties.

• Completion of a standard high school course, or equivalent GED program.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in an entry–level manual labor position.
• Valid driver’s license and Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
• Virginia Pesticide Applicator License, Virginia Work Area Protection Certification, OSHA 10 Certification, Virginia Flagging Certification, or the ability to obtain certifications within a year.
• Any combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
