SummaryThis position is affiliated with Cincinnati’s Children’s hospital in the USA. The Consultant in Pediatric Psychiatry provides expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health conditions in children and adolescents.
Education/Qualification:

American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- USA:
- Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
- Diagnose and treat children and adolescents with psychiatric, behavioral, emotional, and neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including risk assessments for self-harm, harm to others, and safeguarding concerns.
- Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
- Prescribe, review, and monitor psychiatric medications in line with DOH and hospital guidelines.
- Provide consultation-liaison services to pediatrics, emergency, ICU, and other specialties within SKMC.
- Accept and manage referrals from emergency services, inpatient units, outpatient clinics, primary care, and external hospitals.
- Lead ward rounds and outpatient clinics; review, reassess, and follow up on inpatient and outpatient cases.
- Review diagnostic reports, psychological assessments, and relevant medical investigations; adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Work closely with pediatricians, psychologists, social workers, nurses, therapists, educators, and allied health teams to deliver coordinated care.
- Communicate clearly with patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, medication effects, risks, and follow-up plans.
- Support families with counseling, education, and discharge planning.
- Promote a collaborative, team-based approach to patient care within a multicultural setting.
- Supervise and oversee the clinical work of junior doctors, residents, and fellows.
- Provide clinical teaching, case discussions, and mentorship to junior medical staff.
- Participate in peer review, case reviews, and performance management activities.
- Contribute to service development, clinical pathways, and mental health programs within SKMC.
- Assist with recruitment, orientation, and credentialing of new medical staff as required.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with hospital and DOH standards.
- Comply with hospital policies, informed consent requirements, safeguarding protocols, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, clinical audits, safety reporting, and incident reviews.
