Position OverviewThe Assistant Professor of Interior Design is a full-time academic faculty member responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, engaging in research or creative practice, and contributing to service activities within the Department of Architecture and Design. The appointee will support the continued development of the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program and contribute to the department’s academic and professional mission. The language of instruction at Abu Dhabi University is English.
PrimaryDuties and Responsibilities
- Instruction and Curriculum Delivery:
Teach a range of undergraduate courses including freehand drawing, design foundations, interior design studios, textiles/furniture design, working drawings, building technology, and sustainable design. - Prepare course materials (syllabi, assessments, content) in accordance with university academic policies.
- Incorporate current digital tools and software in teaching (e.g., AutoCAD, Sketch Up, 3D Max, V‑Ray).
- Supervise student graduation projects and advise on portfolio and professional development.
- Ensure alignment between course learning outcomes (CLOs) and program learning outcomes (PLOs).
- Maintain required teaching documentation and submit student evaluations and grades in a timely manner.
- Research and Scholarly/Creative Activity: develop and maintain a productive research or creative practice agenda aligned with interior design or a related field, publish scholarly articles in peer‑reviewed indexed journals, contribute to juried exhibitions, competitions, or design installations, pursue funded projects or professional collaborations that enhance the department's research profile, contribute to research KPIs and support annual reporting processes.
- Service and Academic Contribution: serve on departmental, college, and university committees as required; contribute to curriculum development, accreditation, and quality assurance activities; participate in student and departmental events such as juries, design reviews, exhibitions, and workshops; provide academic advising and mentorship to students; engage in community outreach and professional service to enhance visibility of the interior design program.
- PhD or equivalent in Interior Design or a closely related field from a recognized and accredited institution.
- If a master’s degree, significant teaching experience (minimum of six years full‑time) and a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications and professional design practice.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
- Proficiency in industry‑standard design and visualization software (AutoCAD, Sketch Up, 3D Max, Adobe Suite).
- International or regional accreditation experience (e.g., CIDA, NASAD, or CAA).
- Recognized record of creative work, exhibitions, juried competitions, or professional design achievements.
- Membership or active participation in professional organizations (e.g., IIDA, ASID, IFI).
- Experience with interdisciplinary design education or collaborative studio projects.
- Fulfillment of teaching load and achievement of course learning outcomes and assessment of its contribution to program outcomes.
- Regular publication or creative output aligned with university KPIs.
- Active participation in service and committee responsibilities.
- Compliance with institutional academic regulations, code of conduct, and policy framework.
