The Head of Chemistry in Abu Dhabi is a senior academic leadership role for an experienced educator passionate about Chemistry teaching, curriculum excellence, and department leadership. The Head of Chemistry will oversee teaching standards, staff performance, curriculum planning, and student achievement across the Chemistry department within a high-achieving British curriculum school.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement Chemistry department policies aligned with school vision and high academic standards
- Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium, and long-term departmental development plans
- Use student performance data to identify underachievement and implement targeted support strategies
- Analyse school data, inspection findings, and research to improve teaching standards and outcomes
- Ensure schemes of work are relevant, regularly reviewed, and inclusive of SEN, G&T, and EAL students
- Maintain curriculum continuity, progression, and high standards across all year groups
- Establish clear policies for assessment, recording, and reporting of student achievement
- Monitor teaching quality and implement improvement plans where required
- Ensure strong departmental contribution to CAS programmes and after-school revision sessions
- Performance manage staff in line with school policy and maintain high professional standards
- Build collaborative working relationships within the department and across the wider school
- Hold regular departmental meetings focused on teaching quality and student achievement
- Manage departmental resources, staffing, and budget allocation effectively
- Maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment aligned with school policies
- Support examination preparation, academic mentoring, and wider school leadership responsibilities
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Education, or related subject with teaching qualification
- Minimum 6 years of teaching experience in Chemistry up to IGCSE and A Level
- Previous leadership experience within a department or subject team preferred
- Strong experience with British curriculum delivery and examination preparation
- Previous experience working with EAL students is an advantage
- High level of professionalism and commitment to student well‑being
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills
- Excellent knowledge of curriculum planning, assessment, and academic improvement strategies
- Clean enhanced DBS check or police clearance required
