Aldar Education is seeking a Librarian for Muna British Academy in Abu Dhabi commencing in the academic year .
Responsibilities- Develop and deliver library information literacy sessions to ensure students can find the resources they need, whether books, magazines, or online materials, fostering independent and effective library use.
- Select and order new books appropriate to each section and grade level, and based on teachers’ requirements to support the curriculum.
- Liaise with teachers to distribute topic‑related resources to classrooms as needed.
- Catalogue all resources into the automated library system “Destiny Follett”, following the Dewey system and applying labels and covers.
- Maintain the library database, keeping records of all students and teachers up to date.
- Follow up on overdue books from students and teachers, collect fees for lost or damaged items, and repair damaged books.
- Maintain an attractive library environment that allows students to sit and read quietly or conduct independent study.
- Promote reading through attractive displays, recommend new releases, and encourage a love of books.
- Arrange author visits and book fairs with local book shops.
- Run the Book Club, consolidating student orders for the school and distributing books when they arrive.
- Sign books in and out and re‑shelve returned books.
- Liaise with teaching and non‑teaching staff, responding to enquiries within the scope of the post.
- Comply with health and safety, legislation and school policies.
- Assist with the development of policies and procedures.
- Attend training associated with the duties of the post.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the post.
- Minimum qualifications:
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in library studies or a relevant field. - Minimum experience:
Two years in a similar role within a school setting. - Fluent English communication skills, written and oral;
Arabic proficiency an advantage. - Strong interpersonal skills with students and parents.
- Demonstrable organisational skills.
- Strong desire to help others and ability to inspire respect, trust, and confidence.
- Creativity and innovation.
