Overview

GEMS Cambridge International School, Abu Dhabi is hiring for an enthusiastic and experienced History Teacher to join our school community from August 2026. The ideal candidate will have expertise in teaching History (A-levels), or related disciplines across secondary phase. You will inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a global perspective through engaging lessons and creative approaches to learning. Overall

Function and Purpose

To teach and educate students according to guidelines provided by the National Curriculum Framework under the overall guidance of the competent education authority.

Main Responsibilities
  • Deliver the required ENC curriculum; demonstrating accurate and up to date knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, clutter-free, conducive environment that optimizes great student outcomes.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to all students in the class according to their varying abilities.
  • Teach according to the educational needs, abilities and achievement of the individual students and groups of students.
  • Adopt and work towards the implementation of the school development plan of the school.
  • Assign work, correct and mark work carried out by students. Marking according to the school’s marking policy.
  • Set the highest expectations for every child in the class and assist learners to realize their potential which will enable them to work in a manner that shows high standards in the workbooks.
  • Assess, record and report on the development, progress, attainment and behavior of students.
  • Analyze data and use it to adapt classroom practice to ensure all learners achieve their full potential.
  • Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students or groups of students.
  • Participate in arrangements within an agreed national framework for the appraisal of students’ performance.
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students, groups of students or class entrusted to the teacher.
  • Provide guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters and on their further education and targets.
  • Communicate, consult and co-operate with other members of the school staff, including those having posts of special responsibility and parents/guardians.
  • Review and evaluate one’s own teaching and learning strategies, methodologies and programme/s in line with the National Curriculum Framework guidelines to improve teaching and learning.
  • Advise and co-operate with the Head of School, Deputy Heads, Assistant Head Teachers, Heads of Years, Education Officers, and other teachers in curriculum design, teaching materials, programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral care arrangements.
  • Ensure high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning of the subject/s. Through dialogue, participate in peer review and observation of class teaching by the Head of Department.
  • Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities and action research exercises.
  • Maintain good order and discipline amongst students and safeguard their health and safety at all times.
  • Report concerns that jeopardize learner safety to the safeguarding officer of the school.
  • Participate in staff meetings related to the school curriculum or pastoral care arrangements.
  • Contribute to the professional development of new teachers and student teachers as arranged with the Head of School.
  • Provide information and advice to designated personnel regarding requisitions and arrangements for teaching the assigned subject/s.
  • Ensure the safe custody and maintenance of equipment used during lessons.
  • Ensure the safe custody of the laptop, whiteboard pen and remote given at commencement.
  • Participate in school assemblies and parent gatherings as stipulated by the Head of Department.
  • Attend termly parent meetings per policy.
  • Register and monitor the attendance of students under one’s care and follow up on the same day if a student is absent.
  • Ensure attendance is marked regularly and timely every day.
