Library Information Specialist is responsible for performing tasks in support of services and activities of the Library, working alongside existing academic partners, to implement and manage library systems, discovery mechanisms, and control mechanisms for online resources on behalf of Khalifa University. The Specialist is also responsible for updating fellow library staff about relevant and emerging systems technology and for using technology to support students, manage repositories, and provide multimedia center support.
KeyRoles & Responsibilities
- Work in coordination with academic partners to manage the Library and develop facilities and resources that cater to Khalifa University student needs.
- Coordinate the daily operations of a library function or program such as serial ordering, reference processing, special collections, electronic publications, collection development and information services.
- Keep abreast of development of library and other emerging technologies to maintain current.
- Monitor all stages of the e‑resources cycle including trial access, registration, access and authentication, awareness and support, and the final removal of access on cancelation.
- Participate in ILP, training, and teach electronic research classes to new and experienced library users.
- Participate in the preparation, maintenance and updating of policies and procedures for functional area.
- Perform acquisitions, cataloging, bibliographic maintenance, sorting and delivering of materials, data entry and public service required to provide the public with orderly and helpful access to library materials.
- Guide patrons in finding and using library resources, including reference materials, audiovisual equipment, computers, and electronic resources.
- Develop tools and frameworks that enable the ongoing assessment of existing library services, user requirements and technological needs and take necessary actions based on the research.
- Continue to learn and develop skills for using existing and emerging library technologies and instructing patrons on their usage.
- Assist patrons with their access to a variety of downloadable materials including eBooks, downloadable audio books, etc.
- Review and monitor subscription and licensing terms for databases and periodicals.
- Implement and communicate policies pertaining to services, operations, and activities; resolves complex departmental problems, and develops and implements operational procedures.
- Initiate and assists with collection maintenance activities and projects including print and electronic collections.
- Coordinate with the library acquisitions, works with the selection teams to identify materials to be ordered, and prepares orders choosing the supplier based on cost and discount available.
- Download orders into the library systems and oversee the receipt of materials, process invoices for payment.
- Oversee the Interlibrary Loan program, including interfacing with other libraries, training and supervising the work of back up and support staff.
- Adhere to the University’s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
- Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment and practice to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Adaptability, proactivity, willingness to take on additional responsibilities; skilled in relationship building and teamwork.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
